Hello San Diego!

Due to the holiday and next week's return of December Nights, events are a wee bit sparse in number, but we will share what we found!

Saturday at the Mission Hills Library, Maria Butler will discuss Mexican cultural history from Olmecs to Aztecs.

Sunday, poet Jim Moreno will give a talk on Latin American Nobel Laureates in Poetry.

Monday, Duo AYA, a collaboration between Rachel Woolf on flute and Makana Jimbu on marimba will perform at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library in La Jolla. At the San Diego Central Public Library, there will be a discussion on What Is It about 'Latinx'?

Tuesday, in Little Italy, there will be a Dedication Ceremony for the new Piazza Costanza.

Wednesday, there will be an Indigenous Talking Circle at SDSU. At UCSD, there will be a talk about Julian and the Third Temple.

Next Thursday, at the San Diego Made Factory, there will be a Book Launch Party for the bilingual photo guidebook Places We Love: San Diego Tijuana. Latin GRAMMY Award–winning, all-female band Flor de Toloache will perform at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla. 1222 Oceanfront: A Black Family Christmas will begin performances at the New Village Arts Theatre in Carlsbad. At the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, the film Matchmaking will be shown. Poet Aja Monet will recite and talk at The Loft at UCSD.

Next Friday and Saturday, Balboa Park December Nights returns, with performances, open museums, arts, crafts, food and innumerable vendors.

Next Friday, the Marché de Noël European-style Winter Fair will take place at the San Diego French-American School. Author Andrea Beatriz Arango, who wrote the One Book One San Diego teen selection Iveliz Explains It All, will talk and read at the Vista Library. At MiraCosta College, they will screen the classic award winning Polish film Ida. The Mariachi opera El Milagro del Recuerdo will be performed at the San Diego Civic Theatre with a repeat performance that Sunday.

Next Saturday, and for two shows next Sunday, Evolution Dance Center's The Nutcracker will be performed at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.

Next Saturday, the Sunshine Brooks Theatre in Oceanside the Tierra Caliente Academy of Arts presents a Spanish-language performance of La Pastorela or The Shepherds' Play. At UCSD, Epstein Family Amphitheater Nochebuena: A Christmas Spectacular will be a celebration of the traditions and customs of Christmas in Mexico.

Next Sunday, the San Diego Buddhist Temple will host a Sri Lankan Food Festival.

Our Recipe of the Month is for Senegalese Poulet Yassa, a delicious dish of chicken marinated with citrus, mustard and hot peppers. It is then cooked with a copious amount of onions. Served with couscous, it is a delightful repast indeed!

Okra Playground is an electro-folk band from Helsinki, Finland, that combines traditional Finnish folk music with modern instruments and soundscapes.
